Our story

After visiting countless properties, we stumbled upon an unpolished gem in San Martino Alfieri. One look at the view and we were hooked—that “wow” moment we’d dreamt of, still greeting us every morning. Rolling hills, lush vineyards, and ancient castles stretch out before us, utterly mesmerising. We knew instantly this was the spot for the infinity pool we’d always fancied. The property’s past adds to its charm—it once belonged to a winemaking family, and the old barrels and presses in the wine cellar whisper stories of Barbera wines gone by. 

Barbera is the signature grape (and wine) of this part of Piemonte. Our name, Casa Profumi di Barbera (aromas of Barbera), reflects two key aromas found in Barbera wines. The elegance of raspberry (Lampone) suits the smaller house, while the warmth and richness of vanilla (Vaniglia) resonates with the larger one.

What sets this tale apart is its family flavour. Both of us, Dirk and Katrien, poured our hearts into it, but the incredible support from our adult children was the secret sauce. Daan, leveraging his expertise as an engineer-architect, designed and followed up on the renovations, while Kaat, with her passion for creating cosy interiors, infused the spaces with warmth and charm. Together, we’ve turned a dream into reality!
